FAQ

Where do Newborn Sessions take place?

Newborn sessions usually take place at the client's home.  All I need is a little cleared out space in front of natural light such as a window, to set up my blanket stand and  beanbag.  I also do basket shots, and have faux wood polypaper floor drops I can lay on hard floors in front of windows.  Can do outdoor shots as well if weather permits.  Lifestyle shots in the newborns nursery is also an option if it gets a decent amount of natural light.  If you'd rather not do the session at your house, I have a small space set up at my house for newborn sessions in Lenexa.

Why do you allow up to 3 hrs. for a newborn shoot?

Newborn sessions can take patience and time, and can be expected to last 2 -3 hrs.  I allow this amount of time because they may need soothed & calmed, feedings & diaper changes.  Newborn's have their own schedule and can't be forced into anything.  It can sometimes take 15-20 minutes to calm and soothe the baby into one pose.  I try to schedule sessions right after a feeding, but sometimes they need fed during this session time also.  It's best to schedule during a time when you have 3 hours open, and no scheduled appointments that day that may overstimulate the baby.  I will provide a Newborn Session Document before the session to help you prepare for a smooth newborn session and know what to expect.

Can family and siblings be included in newborn sessions?

Yes, you may use that time however you'd like.  All 20 images don't have to be only of the newborn. Please let me know if you're interested in that.

What do you provide at Newborn Sessions?

I include the basics such as blankets for my blanket stand and newborn posing bag.  Basket stuffers, crates and baskets.  I also have newborn stretch knit wraps to swaddle, and simple girl tie back headbands.  Parents may include any details such as headbands, hats, outfits, diaper covers, swaddles, blankets etc.  If you don't have anything special to include, no worries.  My style is simple and natural.

Why don't we get all of the images you take at a session or choose which ones we want in our gallery?

At a session I can take around 100 photos and not every image I take is perfect.  A focus may have been missed, someones not looking, I may have to combine 2 images etc.  When editing, I know what I'm looking for and can see the potential.  I cull through all the images and flag the best.  I do a basic clean edit & touch up, and then custom edit and enhance each of those images as you can see below.  Editing takes time and is part of the creative process and look that represents Emily Marie Photography.  Unedited RAW files aren't included because of this reason.  I choose the images to edit and include in your gallery since right now I don't offer prints.  To edit and include all images from a session to let you choose from, I would have to adjust my prices & packages because of the time it'd require.  I am a perfectionist and promise I choose the best and edit to it's full potential.

How long until we receive our gallery?

My turnaround time is around 3-4 weeks.  Busy/holiday season can vary so please inquire.  Of course I always try to get it done sooner if possible.  I try to take on only so many sessions a month so turnaround time won't take too long.  I edit in the order of my sessions.  Shortly after your session I'll post a sneak peek on my Facebook Business Page.  Since I edit in the order of my sessions and around my shooting schedule, it can take a couple weeks to get to your session and start editing the rest.  Editing can take 3-8 hours.  It's my time to be creative and bring your images to life, and your patience is so much appreciated.  If you're needing your photos by a certain date please let me know when booking and I can check my calendar, but I recommend booking your session 4 weeks out if possible to be safe.
